Truly Yummy Boozy Affogato

When dining out, I often find desserts tricky especially being gluten free and dairy free. More often than not, my only option is sorbet. So instead when I’m not driving, I opt for a cocktail, an espresso martini to be exact. My go to for a little post dinner indulgence with a caffeine kick.
That was until I discovered Affogato, the classic Italian dessert where a scoop of gelato is “drowned” in hot espresso. It’s simple, elegant, and now one of my favourites.
My Truly Yummy Boozy Affogato is a twist on the traditional version. A combination of an espresso martini minus the vodka with two scoops of creamy vegan vanilla ice cream and a sprinkling of dark chocolate. It’s gluten free, dairy free, and makes a perfect vegan and vegetarian friendly treat.
It’s quick to make, big on flavour, and I’d love to see more restaurants offer this especially those already serving vegan ice cream.

Truly Yummy Boozy Affogato
Equipment
- 1 serving glass recommend champagne saucer / coupe
Ingredients
- 2 scoops vegan vanilla ice cream recommend Jude's Madagascan Vanilla Ice cream, plant based & vegan.
- 25 ml espresso coffee
- 25 ml coffee liqueur recommend Kahlúa coffee liqueur.
- 1 tsp dark chocolate grated recommend Green & Blacks Organic Dark Cooking Chocolate which has a minimum of 70% cocoa solids.
Instructions
- Place two scoops of soft vegan vanilla ice cream into the glass.

- Measure 25ml of coffee liqueur and pour directly over the ice cream.

- Brew a hot single espresso coffee and pour 25ml over the ice cream.

- Finally grate a teaspoon of dark chocolate over the top and serve immediately.
