Truly Yummy BBQ Sauce

Truly Yummy BBQ Sauce

Truly Yummy homemade BBQ sauce that’s gluten free and dairy free. Perfect for burgers, chicken, steak and more.

My Truly Yummy BBQ Sauce is a rich, smoky, gluten free and dairy free sauce that takes your barbecued meats to the next level. It’s delicious with rump steak, chicken, fish, my Truly Yummy Beef Burgers or even drizzled over some new potatoes.

Once you’ve tried homemade BBQ sauce, it’s hard to go back to the bottled versions. This sauce is packed with flavour and has a depth that shop-bought sauces simply can’t match.

I grew up with this recipe, as my mum started to make it in the 70’s after discovering it in a Woman’s Own magazine many years ago. Over time, she added her own twist by using my Dad’s homemade strawberry and rhubarb wine instead of the red wine vinegar. A change that gave the sauce a distinctive flavour.

Today I either use red wine vinegar or, if I have a little red or white wine left in the bottle, I’d replace the vinegar with that instead.

Over the decades this sauce has never failed to impress family and friends. In fact, I’d recommend doubling the recipe to make sure there’s enough to go round.

Notes

Please be aware some English mustards contain wheat flour therefore it is safer to use mustard powder as it is 1 ingredient. Mix it with a little water to get the consistency of mustard.
Although the recipe usually calls for Worcestershire sauce, I use Henderson’s Relish as it does not contain any allergens unlike Worcestershire sauce which contains barley malt vinegar.
